Pilates is a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed in the early 1900's by Joseph Pilates. Pilates strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance, unites body and mind and creates a more aligned and streamlined shape. The class will primarily be centered around and focused on the matwork principles of Pilates working from a neutral spine. Over the course of the semester, students can expect to strengthen the core, improve posture, increase flexibility and have a better overall awareness of body alignment. Classes begin with a warm up before moving into a series of exercises designed to flow one right into the next.
Yoga Mat needed (available for purchase in the U-Move Fitness office, 3064 CCRB). They are also provided in the classroom.
PILATES1-1014: Looking to not just do pilates but also learn pilates? In this class, you’ll learn the principles, common mistakes, modifications, and many other tools to assist you in your pilates journey. On Tuesday we’ll study the complexities of each exercise with some lecture and demonstrations, and on Thursday we’ll put into practice what we’ve learned as we flow through the series. We’ll progress from the beginner series to intermediate exercises. Recommended materials: Pilates mini ball (7” or 9” diameter, not weighted), Pilates flat exercise band with no handles.
PILATES1-1016: Please note this class meets at the IMSB. It is a matted room, so a yoga mat is not necessarily required.
